Description

AminAmend™ is a nutritional supplement designed to support healthy muscle mass and function as pets age. It contains HMB (β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate), a substance naturally produced in the body during the metabolism of the essential amino acid leucine. HMB is involved in the regulation of muscle protein metabolism. With age, the amount of HMB produced by the body decreases with muscle health. AminAmend™ provides HMB in the form of calcium HMB (CaHMB), together with vitamin D3, which plays an essential role in maintaining normal muscle function.

Drawing on research of HMB’s nutritional value for maintaining muscle health in humans, horses, sows, and on recently published studies in canines, AminAmend™ contributes to the nutritional needs of aging companions, dogs during convalescence and dogs engaged in strenuous sporting or working activities.

Active ingredients (per capsule):
CaHMB – 430 mg
Vitamin D3 – 142 IU

Excipients:
Stearic acid, maltodextrin, magnesium stearate, gelatin (capsule shell).

Administration:
AminAmend™ comes in sprinkle capsules containing powder that can be easily mixed with food. The capsule can also be administered directly into the animal’s mouth. It does not require refrigeration and has a long shelf life. Each AminAmend™ jar contains 30 capsules. Administration at feeding time is recommended.

Dosage:
21–30 lbs: 1 capsule once daily
31–40 lbs: 1½ capsules once daily
41–55 lbs: 2 capsules once daily
56–70 lbs: 2½ capsules once daily
71–80 lbs: 3 capsules once daily
81–90 lbs: 3½ capsules once daily
91–100 lbs: 4 capsules once daily

Research findings:
The effects of HMB have also been evaluated in studies of physically active dogs and in dogs with muscular dystrophy. In racing greyhounds, HMB supplementation was associated with reduced markers of muscle damage, support for recovery after intense exercise and improvements in certain performance parameters. In sled dogs, HMB supplementation was followed by a reduction in levels of the muscle enzymes creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), which are used as markers of muscle damage. In a blinded crossover trial of dogs with muscular atrophy, HMB increased measured daily activity and changed whole-body protein/amino-acid metabolism.
